I am a wife and mother of two sons. Our eldest son, Justin, was killed in a car accident September 27, 2010. He was 25 years old. This blog is my journey through the deepest grief a parent can experience, the unthinkable words a parent never wants to ever hear...“I am sorry to tell you, but your son Justin is dead.”

Doug and I have been married for more than 30 years, and the blog tells our story too, the struggles, tears and sometimes laughter of learning to live again.

“In Camelot”

I am very honored to be featured on “Life In Ten Minutes” today! Thank you to Valley Haggard for the honor of being published on “Life In Ten Minutes.” Valley’s book “The Halfway House for Writers” is pure magic and her wisdom on writing touched my soul. My copy is dog-eared and highlighted and I keep it out on my desk to remind me to write my truth.

This is a piece that I wrote in an Inky Path master class, a wonderful creative space that reaches down and brings out stories and voices that have been silent for a long time. Thank you Jena and Cigdem for embracing my words and encouraging me to dig deep even when it is scary. If you have always wanted to take a class but been hesitant or think you aren’t a writer, you will be safe at the Inky Path, it is one of the safest places I have ever experienced.

“Flattening myself against the wall and halting my breath so as to not give away my hiding place, I overhear my mother on the phone. My father went into cardiac arrest coming out of open heart surgery.”
