What the Camera Saw: The Many Faces of Orchids

The moment I opened the conservatory doors I felt my spirits rise! The scent of growing things and thousands of little flowering faces welcomed my cold nose and frozen fingers. Maybe it is all the oxygen in the air from the plants, the ions from the splashing waterfalls, but magic happens when I am at Longwood Gardens.  Here is what the camera saw at the Orchid Extravaganza.

The sight that greeted us as we entered the conservatory.

That face!
That face!
These two made me smile.

The Orchid Extravaganza runs through March, and well worth the visit. Thanks for wandering through Longwood with me, it is a privilege to share some moments with you.

Peace and all good,

Love, Terri

What a wonderful place to spend a cold and impendingly snowy day! (I made that word up!)

I would move to Kennett Square in a heartbeat if we could.

Speechless for sure! The orchid ‘faces’ are amazing. Thanks for sharing this beauty Terri.

My pleasure Judy! I loved spying all the little faces and their expressions! Some sweet, some scary, some cranky! Some looked like little monkeys. I think I could walk through the conservatory every day and see something different.

Thank you Lois! It is a brisk 17 degrees here and I am dreaming of the warm conservatory this morning!

I’ve only been there once but this brought back memories. I love orchids. What a sight to behold on an ice cold winter’s day in upstate New York.

Thank you Alana! They did a breathtaking job of creating orchid gardens that were dreamlike. And oh this cold, the wind chill is below zero today. I hope you have a cozy day.

I love these photos! My orchid just re-bloomed… so I’m a bit orchid obsessed these days. xo

Thank you Stacey! There is nothing quite like coaxing an orchid to re-bloom. My little phalaenopsis re-bloomed last year and I was so excited. I did have some bud drop, so I only got two blooms to maturation. This year she was forming a little spike to send off and one of my ginger cats chewed it, I felt horrible. I am still hopeful she will send off another spike to bloom – maybe! I was in absolute awe of Longwood’s orchid collection.

I love orchids! These photographs are so lovely- the light in the third one down is exquisite.

Thank you Julia! I love orchids also. My house orchid, a little three year old moth orchid, just bloomed. Orchids can be fussy, have all these beautiful buds and then have the temperature drop too much, or not be humid enough, and they will drop all their buds. So far so good, she has one beautiful blossom and more buds waiting to open. Longwood Gardens always takes my breath away. The care and love that they pour out into their plants is so evident, it is a place of great peace.
